In February, 2016, Able Flight pilot Randy Green, who was born without hands or feet, will undergo King Air 350 Type Rating training at FlyRight, Inc. He will take part in a rigorous 17-day Initial training course, which is being provided by FlyRight free of charge. Able Flight works with training providers across the country to offer people with physical disabilities a unique way to challenge themselves through flight and aviation career training.
“When I heard about all of the amazing work Able Flight does, to not only offer flight and aviation career training to people with (physical) disabilities, but to also increase their self-confidence and independence…I knew it was something FlyRight should be a part of,” said Matt Hapgood, President. He added, “Randy’s story is amazing and inspirational. Given the challenges he’s faced and the obstacles that have been put in his path, it’s a privilege to have him train with us. We look forward to providing him with a challenging and realistic training experience that will prepare him for the next step in his aviation career.”
Green’s passion for flying began at the age of 18. By 1994 at age 22, he had earned his Private Pilot certificate and soon thereafter his Instrument, Commercial and Flight Instructor ratings. He has logged over 2,900 hours in a wide range of single engine aircraft, and over 450 hours in twins, including the Beechcraft Baron, Piper Seminole, and Apache and the Cessna 414 and 421. He holds his Private and Commercial pilot licenses, his Instrument Rating and is an ATP Multi-Engine, CFI-II and MEI instructor. He currently flies as a corporate pilot on a Cessna P210.
Green has faced a lifetime of challenges, including having to overcome peoples’ initial expectations of his capabilities. Yet his response has remained consistent: He lets his abilities speak for him. “I can’t begin to express how thankful I am that Able Flight and FlyRight are supporting my career in aviation. With this new rating, I’ll have even more opportunities, and I look forward to working for a company that needs a pilot for their King Air 350,” said Green.

Randy’s goal is simple: He wants to continue to build upon the corporate aviation career success he has already had by gaining experience and additional ratings. We were happy to support his training for his ATP certificate earlier this year, and now with FlyRight’s help and our scholarship to cover all of his (related) expenses for this course, he’ll have even more opportunities to use his abilities to provide for his family like any other professional pilot.”
