Job Description
Cleaning, stripping (chemical and mechanical), prepping (sanding, corrosion removal, body work), masking, priming, layout, detailing and assisting the painting of aircraft components.
Job Functions/ Responsibilities:
- Remove paint or other protective materials using approved tools, agents and techniques.
- Remove and treat corrosion using approved tools, equipment and techniques.
- Prepare surfaces for painting and protect other surfaces not being painted by using masks, covers or other approved techniques.
- Assist Painter Mixing and applying primer and finish topcoats in accordance with manufacturer specifications.
- Assist Painter, Maintain and order paint and supplies needed to preform the job.
- Monitors expiration dates of materials to ensure useability.
- Maintains shop paint equipment and facilities by changing filters, cleaning, repairing and/or replacing paint equipment.
- Reads, interprets, and adheres to drawings, work instructions, regulations, repair manuals, and quality procedures.
- Demonstrates clear and effective communication, both verbal and written. Prepares, maintains, and submits accurate paperwork as required, including job reports, timekeeping records, etc.
- Adheres to all applicable environmental, safety and health, and operations procedures and directives. This includes proper use of personal protective equipment in accordance with manufacturer specifications, Safety Data Sheets (SDS), and company guidelines.
- Performs mechanical functions in other parts of facility shop as assigned, dependent upon paint shop workload.
Required Skills and Abilities:
- Ability to use a variety of painting and sanding tools.
- Ability to prepare surfaces for painting.
- Component or automotive related Paint or Painter Helper experience preferred.
- Effectively read, write, and understand English.
- Ability to follow verbal and written instructions with a high level of attention to detail.
- Must have good interpersonal and communication skills, good work ethic and be dedicated to working safely.
- Good organizational skills.
- Must be able to pass a FAA/DOT drug screen.
- Ability to stand for long periods of time.
- Must be able to wear respirator and other safety equipment, as required.
- Must have obtained a high school diploma or equivalent and have unrestricted authorization to work in the United States.
Physical & Environmental Conditions:
- Physical Requirements: While performing the duties of this job, employees are regularly required to sit, walk, stand, bend, crouch, crawl, and twist. Reach, push, and pull with hands and arms. Lift up to 50 pounds. Talk and hear, both in person and by telephone.
- Working Conditions: Most work is performed inside an industrial/warehouse environment. Employees may handle hazardous material or have exposure to airborne fumes. The noise level is usually mild to moderate 75% of the time.
