The Beechcraft King Air is known to be a workhorse but this weekend it is putting the people to work, and for a great cause! Each year, the Fairfield Center in Weyers, VA, organizes the Valley Plane Pull at the Shenandoah Valley Airport, about 2.5 hours southwest of Washington, D.C.
When this event started 6 years ago, they wanted to do something different. The Fairfield Center is an organization that offers an array of conflict resolution, communications excellence training, business services, restorative justice and civic engagement initiatives. Instead of putting on another community dinner or 5k run, they wanted to do something that people could get excited to participate in and also watch!
Teams are assembled from local companies, churches and individuals, which also help sponsor the event. Each team pulls the 8,000 lb. Beechcraft King Air 150 feet for the best time and they also have prizes for the fastest men and women, fastest mixed team, as well as best spirit.
The Beechcraft King Air’s are donated from Dynamic Aviation for the event who are based in Bridgewater, VA. Dynamic specializes in aviation solutions for government and commercial organizations worldwide.
The community is pulling together for Fairfield. The funds raised from the plane pull are critical for the mediation services for the Fairfield Center. The services help families come to agreements about difficult topics, including separation, divorce and parenting. Last year, the Fairfield Center helped resolve over 450 conflicts, which were 85% of it’s cases.
