Medical transport is an important function for the King Air family, and the latest purchase of two King Air’s by Australia’s Royal Australian Flying Doctor Service (RFDS) shines light on the functionality of the aircrafts. The two new King Air 350C Heavy Weight’s capabilities will be instrumental in their medical transport.
King Air 350C Heavy Weight’s Cater to Patients
After seeing the benefits of the King Air 350C Heavy Weight’s, it’s no surprise that the RFDS ordered two air frames for their emergency medical transport and retrieval services. The plane will operate out of the Queensland chapter, and will provide the following capabilities:
- long range capabilities
- enhanced payload
- patient comfort
- built-in air stair and cargo door
These benefits will offer patients and staff a more comfortable transfer. The King Air 350C will also allow the RFDS to fly some routes without needing to refuel as they do now. This perk will save time and money in the long-run for the non-profit business. Another feature worth mentioning is the cargo door, which is essential for transporting medical equipment and patients since it gives greater access for loading.
RFDS to Receive Planes in 2015
The RFDS is expected to receive at least one of the planes by April of 2015. It will be the first King Air 350C’s on the fleet. Once they get the aircraft, they will have it fully fitted for medical use before embarking on their first missions.
Currently the Australian Royal Flying Doctor Service uses the King Air B200, Cessna Grand Caravan C208, Rio Tinto Life Flight Jet, and the PC-12 Pilatus. The new King Air additions will only strengthen their fleet with the ability to carry more and for longer distances.
