Remembering Tom Clements: A Life of Flying, Teaching, and Giving Back

October 21,2026

The King Air community, and aviation as a whole, mourns the loss of Tom Clements, a respected instructor, author, storyteller, and friend whose influence reached far beyond the cockpit.

Tom devoted much of his life to understanding the airplane he loved and helping others understand it, too. His knowledge earned him tremendous respect, but his generosity, humor, and approachable personality made him someone people looked forward to learning from.

“Tom was the Paul Harvey of King Air's, he always had a great explanation and stories about the airplane we all loved,” said Carl Davis, VP of King Air Nation.

Tom could explain a complicated system, bring a lesson to life with a story, and leave you smiling while knowing more than you did before. His passion for his work was evident, as was his willingness to share what years of experience had taught him.

His career with Beechcraft began in January 1972 at the Beechcraft Training Center, where he eventually rose to lead the center. In 1979, he founded Flight Review, Inc., providing on-site training for King Air operators. His commitment to teaching later extended to King Air Academy, where he shared his expertise and mentored instructors. Across more than five decades, his work helped generations of pilots, owners, and instructors better understand their aircraft.

As an author, Tom extended those lessons well beyond the classroom. The King Air Book, often informally referred to as "The King Air Bible", brought together the practical knowledge, operating insights, and stories that made his teaching so valued. He followed it with The King Air Book, Volume II in 2019, giving readers another collection of lessons drawn from a lifetime around these aircraft.

Tom was among the inaugural inductees into the Beechcraft King Air Hall of Fame, a fitting recognition of his lasting contributions as an instructor, author, mentor, and pilot.

At King Air Nation, we are especially grateful for the opportunities we had to hear Tom speak at the King Air Gathering. His presence brought together so much of what makes this community special: shared knowledge, meaningful connections, good stories, and a genuine love for aviation.

For all his accomplishments, the personal memories are just as meaningful. We remember his sense of humor, his generous spirit, and his willingness to help someone work through a question. He cared about his work and the people who turned to him, and that care became part of every lesson he passed along.

Tom lived a full life, surrounded by the people and airplanes he loved and doing work that gave him purpose. His legacy continues in the pilots he taught, the instructors he mentored, the pages he wrote, and the stories that will be shared for years to come.

His wisdom will continue to guide this community. His personality, humor, and friendship will be deeply missed.

Our thoughts and prayers are with Tom’s family, his friends, and the entire King Air community.

Thank you, Tom, for sharing so much of yourself with all of us.
