Textron-owned company, TRU Simulation + Training plans to open a 35,000-square-foot maintenance training facility next month. The facility will be located at the Textron Aviation West Campus, near Wichita Eisenhower National Airport. One of the primary focuses of the academy will be training for Beechcraft King Air models fitted with the Rockwell Collins Pro Line Fusion avionics.
The facility includes multiple classrooms along with a flight line hangar with the capacity to train over 1,000 aircraft maintenance students annually. The first class of students for the Tru Aircraft Maintenance Academy will enter in early October. They’ll train on new production Beechcraft King Air C90GTx, 250 and 350i models and extended range-turboprops (outfitted with Rockwell Collins Pro Line Fusion avionics).
Tru Simulation’s students will be broken down into four groups: Textron Aviation engineers, service center employees, buyers of new Textron Aviation aircraft, private fleet owners and operators. Tru Simulation also plans to train defenses customers at some point in the future.
The students will be in good hands. Instructors will be certified airframe and powerplant mechanics or have Federal Communications Commission communication licenses, with a minimum of five years of experience for the aircraft they’ll teach. The aim is to maintain an one instructor to eight student ratio, and will add instructors as the academy grows. In 2017, the company will also add maintenance training on all current production Cessa aircraft.
