Earlier this week, March 27th, Western Aircraft hit the milestone of 60 years of service. Originally known as Morrison-Knudsen Corporation, the company headquartered in Boise, Idaho applied for and received its first FAA Certified Repair Station Certificate on March 29, 1957 and began its legacy.
“I look at the humble beginnings of this company and where we are 60 years later and I’m so proud to be part of this organization,” said Western Aircraft’s Vice President and General Manager Austin Shontz. “This company owes its success to its dedicated ownership, its customers and the talented team of employees that have helped it to continue to move forward since 1957.”
The 1980s marked the addition of three more hangars and becoming a wholly-owned subsidiary under the Western Aircraft name. The company was purchased by Al Hilde, Jr. and Allen Hoyt in 1995 and within 12 years had become the world’s largest PC-12 dealer. Also during this time, growth was expanded by becoming a Falcon and King Air Authorized Service Center.
On July 2007, Greenwich AeroGroup purchased the company and continued to grow the company with the formation of OEM relationships and additional capabilities with further investments in people, training, tooling, technology and faculties.
Congratulations Western Aircraft; here’s to the next 60 years!
Western Aircraft plans to hold an official 60th-anniversary celebration later this year. The company website is http://www.westair.com/
